Six Sigma!
After hearing this word thought which comes first in mind. Which Language it came from?- It is a Greek Word!
So what? What it stands for? Now the really story starts here – It is a Process Standard which came into the picture post invention and successful implementation in Motorola Inc in 1986 by Bill Smith and after that it is a proprietary of motorola!
So Now next question would be what is the utility of it?
This Standards Bulls Eye is its toughness figure may seam impossible but six sigma certification would be given to a manufacturing process whose 3.4 products out of a million manufactured is defective. Now! How to achieve it. Usually all the companies which starts there certification are one or two sigma. But this standard makes such a change in work culture and the lives of the employees that quality becomes a habit. Hence the 6 Sigma standard is achieved only by the team work and efficiency as the motive in the employees. Post this certification companies reported following changes :-
1. Reduction in cost of inventory check and quality checks in various steps of production, now only sample verification is required.
2. Cost saving due to reduced defects and Customer Delight.
3. No expense on the transportation of defected product.
4. Increased employee satisfaction.
